Mount Vesuvio is an active volcano, perhaps the most famous volcano of the earth, one of the most studied and one of most dangerous. It is an interesting volcano, because of its history and the frequency of its eruptions. Vesuvius is 1279 meters high, and is on the coast of the Gulf of Naples: it is conspicuous in the beautiful landscape presented by that bay, when seen from the sea, with Naples in the foreground.
Today Mount Vesuvius is comprised in the area of the National Park of Vesuvius: here the nature is extraordinary. The slopes of the volcano are characterised by deep valleys, the old crater has spires and walking along the edge of the crater, watching towards the sea, you can admire the southern part of the volcano and, if the sky is clear, the whole Gulf of Naples, from the Sorrento Peninsula and Capri till Procida and Ischia.
Moreover, on the mountain there is a net of evocative paths, that extends for approximately 55 km, that allow to admire the nature and the beautiful landscape.
